McBean Lagoon was declared protected in 1995. When UNESCO declared Seaflower Biosphere Reserve in the Archipelago, in 2000, the park area joined it; also is part of the Marine Protected Areas of the archipelago since 2004.

It up the hill Iron Wood Hill, the McBean mangrove, the McBean Lagoon and cays Cangrejo and Los Tres Hermanos. In its offshore coral barrier it stands out, with 32 Km long is the second largest Caribbean sea and gives different shades, so it is known as the ‘sea of ​​seven colors’. You can hike up the hill, kayaking on the lagoon, visit the cays that are part of the park, swim near the corals.
